I’m all for independence and women having the ability to do whatever they want, but there are some things I would like women to collective stop doing.
STOP THE COMPETITION
- Stop competing with each other. We’ve all heard “united we stand, divided we fall”, so why do we keep competing with each other? I am a huge supporter of female success, when I see a fellow woman especially one like me making a name for herself. Standing strong and following her dreams, it makes me so happy. I don’t need to know someone to cheer for them. There are enough people who don’t want you to succeed, sending negative vibes to the universe and hoping you fail. So why do it to your fellow women? Let us unite together to be great. Let us learn to be proud of one another.
STOP BODY SHAMING
- Stop body shaming each other. My body and the way I carry it does not affect yours or the way you carry yours. I’ve noticed a lot of young women feel the need to comment on other women’s bodies (I’m guilty too). Let’s all hang our hands in shame together. If someone chooses to have multiple plastic surgeries, or be sexually liberal or anything else a woman might like to do with her body, why must we pass judgement? This notion of “body counts” is ruining the way girls and young women see each other. Why are we so concerned by what the next girl is doing? Someone’s sexual history is not a measure of their worth so why do we get so concerned? I know parts of it can be attributed to upbringing and cultural views on chastity and such but it’s time to stop imposing our views and expectations on others and embrace individuality.
STOP BEING DEFINED BY OTHERS
- Stop being defined by everything but yourself. Your mother did not give birth to you so you can change yourself just because john who you have a crush on says he likes women who dress a certain way, or who are quiet or whatever else the case may be. You certainly weren’t born to be influenced by what you see in magazines, or on television and certainly not on Instagram. In case you haven’t heard, the girls in the magazines don’t look like that. So why are you trying to be them? It’s so easy to put up a false image of anything these days, a few filters, borrowed items and immoral activities later and anyone can fool those paying attention into believing they’re something they’re not. So ladies stop changing yourself to be someone else’s perfect image of what they think you should be. At the end of the day when the lights go off and you close your eyes, you have to answer to yourself and no one else. Eventually, you get tired of pretending and everything blows up in your face (maybe not as dramatic).
Inspire. Motivate. Empower.
